Initial Teacher Education

Maes yr Haul is a lead partner school for the ‘Yr Athrofa Professional Learning Partnership’, a combination of school and university staff working together to co-deliver both undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education programmes with QTS alongside University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

As such, the APLP combines the expertise of the school sector and all its practical, hands-on experience with the expertise of the higher education (HE) sector, from the understanding of careful research design and delivery to the highly-skilled art of teaching teachers and would-be teachers.

Our partnership with Yr Athrofa underscores our own vision of Maes yr Haul Primary School as a learning organisation which provides high quality professional development, not only for our own staff but that of the teachers of the future. Students bring a continual flow of fresh ideas into school; their engagement with staff further strengthens teachers own pedagogy by analyzing and articulating the impact of different strategies, providing feedback and reflecting upon their own practices.  Leadership skills are also developed as staff consider how best to support the student-teachers to improve their practice.  This also serves to enhance our range of professional relationships, providing additional opportunities for action research and the sharing of best practice, thereby ensuring that all staff at Maes yr Haul continue to offer high quality teaching and learning opportunities to all pupils throughout our school.

We also welcome students from other FE and HE organisations such as Bridgend College for relevant level 3 diploma qualifications such as the Children’s Care, Play, Learning & Development
