Our topic in Year 5 this term is Road Trip Around the World 



Within the topic we will be focussing on different countries around the world. The children have chosen five countries per class to focus on. In groups, the children will each look at a particular country of their choice, they will learn about their country through the expressive arts, focusing on art, music, dance, drama, film & digital media.

In science, linked to the topic, the children will be studying materials and their properties.


As part of Literacy this term we will be covering a number of writing genres including writing an autobiography, radio broadcast, a letter and a blog. We will be following the writing journey to highlight and learn the features of each of these genres, sticking to our success criteria and linking with our Road Trip Around the World topic. The children will still be involved in daily guided reading sessions too, where they will rotate around reading activities as part of the VIPERS program. Also, we will be having more of a focus on the children’s spellings.  


The focus at the start of this term will be graphs and tables, where we will be looking at reading graphs as well as creating our own. We will also be developing our knowledge of angles, temperature, budgeting, measure and problem solving, looking at questions in both numerical and word form, with a focus on real life maths. The children will be taking part in daily Big Maths CLIC sessions and will then have a weekly CLIC and Learn Its test. 


· Water bottles need to be brought to school and taken home daily. 

· Please ensure your children comes to school with suntan lotion applied.

· Children need their own pencil case with the necessary equipment. 

· P.E. will continue to take place weekly on a Thursday. 

· Reading Books – Pupils will be in charge of their own reading books and are expected to bring them back and for to school each day. Pupils will then swap them independently in the school library. (Children will be read with in either a guided reading session or individual reading sessions)
