Spring

Our topic this term is Protect our planet!

 

Literacy

Our Literacy focus for this half term is non-chronological reports, the children will end the half term by producing their own non-chronological reports about trees and forests.

 

After half term we will be looking at poetry by Welsh poets.

 

Our Author for our class novels will continue to be Roald Dahl.

 

We will be completing guided reading sessions daily. We will be reading individually with the children every other week (giving 2 books). Please ensure that the books are returned by Friday.

 

We will be completing daily spelling sessions using games and activities from spelling shed.

 

Numeracy

Our Numeracy focus for Spring term will be problem solving, reasoning (explaining how we have solved mathematical problems and calculations) times tables, lines of symmetry, position and direction, addition, amounts of distance, calculating costs, profit and loss, scale leading up to our project about managing a forest.

 

Big Maths- we will be completing weekly CLIC, SAFE and Learn its tests in class. There are lots of videos to support your child's learning on the Mathematics and Numeracy tab of the website.

 

We will be using Doodle Maths and J2blast on Hwb to practise our Maths and times tables skills. You can use these at home too :) 

 

Topic

We will be starting by learning about The Lorax and sustainability. We will look at what trees provide us with, what happens if we didn't have any trees and deforestation. We will investigate the water cycle, how plants and trees grow and complete some investigations to explore pollution. 

We will use minecraft to explore sustainability in a city, learn how they collect and store water in developing countries and learn all about bees through our Bee1 partnership.

 

General

Water bottles

Every day we aim to complete the daily mile, 6 laps of the black tar! Children can run, walk etc. around the tar and are encouraged to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated so please remember to send a full water bottle to school every day.

 

Stationary

Children are encouraged to bring a pencil case to school every day with:

* Pencils

* Colouring pencils

* Sharpener

*Rubber

*Ruler

*Scissors

*Pens

(in Year 3 the class teacher will decide when they are ready to move onto writing with a pen)

 

P.E.

Our P.E. days are Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing the appropriate kit (white t-shirt, black joggers/shorts and trainers)
