Our topic this term is FIRE! FIRE!
Our Literacy focus for this half term is leaflets, the children will end the half term by producing their own leaflet about rocks.
After half term we will be changing our focus to stories linked to the story 'Escape from Pompeii'.
Our Author for our class novels will be Roald Dahl for the whole year. We are using a voting system for the children to decide which book we will be reading.
We will be completing guided reading sessions weekly. Please ensure that the books are returned on a Monday.
We will be using J2blast on HWB to help us practise our spellings, you can use this at home too :)
Our Numeracy focus for Autumn term will be problem solving, reasoning (explaining how we have solved mathematical problems and calculations) times tables, place value, addition, subtraction, measuring and shape. We will be using different songs in class to help with children's learning and we will share these with you on Google Classroom.
Big Maths- we will be completing weekly CLIC, SAFE and Learn its tests in class. There are lots of videos to support your child's learning on the Mathematics and Numeracy tab of the website.
We will be using Doodle Maths and J2blast on Hwb to practise our Maths and times tables skills. You can use these at home too :)
We will be starting by learning about Radical Rocks, the rock cycle, classifying different rocks etc. including two trips to explore and learn about rocks in our local area and see if we can spot any elusive sand volcanoes!
We will be learning about Pompeii and what happened as the volcano erupted, engulfing the village below. We will learn how volcanoes explode and how they stay dormant, the layers of the volcano and using music to retell the story.
We will be using lots of apps in class to support our learning. We have started using clips but will be using piccollage, stop animation, adobe spark and many more!
Every day we complete the daily mile, 6 laps of the black tar! Children can run, walk etc. around the tar and are encouraged to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated so please remember to send a full water bottle to school every day.
Children are encouraged to bring a pencil case to school every day with:

Our P.E. day is Wednesday. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing the appropriate kit (white t-shirt, black joggers/shorts and trainers)
