Homework Guidelines

Homework is an intrinsic part of the learning process, it develops from and feeds into the work done during the day at school and is a tangible example of the home/school partnership. A child’s success in learning will always be enhanced by the cooperation of parents and teachers in achieving shared goals.

Homework is important in developing children as independent learners, able to organise their time effectively and be sufficiently self-disciplined to complete tasks and broaden their learning through further research.

At Maes yr Haul  school, homework is built in gradually as the child moves through the relevant stages and not given as a “bolt on” unrelated activity. Children of primary school age need free time in which to play and develop an interest in a wide variety of activities. There needs to be a healthy balance between free time and homework.

It is always wise to check your child’s bag for books and homework. Homework has been known to languish for weeks in the dark recesses of a school bag!
