Council Minutes for 08.01.08

Present: Mrs Mahoney, Mr Kiernan, Aymen Mustafa, Olivia Westwood, Tom Davies, Shola Ford, Katie Abraham, Tommy Morris, Sam Hall, Andrew Hankin, Caitlyn Jones, Eddie Biebrach, Danielle Marsh, Alex Johnson.

1. Minutes of last school council meeting read and confirmed.

2. Matters arising: Mrs Mahoney has talked to year 6 teachers about the matter of prefects.

3. Matters of astroturf and football discussed, we would like to use the astroturf at lunchtime, Mrs Mahoney has told us she would talk to dinner supervisors to ask if they can supervise the astroturf at lunch. Also a matter came up that some people were messing up football games and we came to a conclusion that anyone who got caught messing up a game would be banned from the astroturf for a day.

4. A.O.B
• Mrs Mahoney has told us that the year 6’s might be making a film later in the year the following suggestions were made: a film about the school, bullying, improvement of the school, past & present and a haunted film.
• We also though about having a map of the school on the wall and on paper.
• We had an idea to get the school council and eco club together for a meeting – they will be invited to the next meeting.
• We walked around the school grounds and decided that the top of the new yard (where we line up for a fire drill) would be the best for a football ‘area’.

1. Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed.

2. Matters arising, to be covered during the agenda.

3. Matter of prefects discussed some prefects would like to have their lunch times free, Mrs Mahoney has informed us that she will have a discussion with year 6 about this matter.

4. Question asked: What games would we like? We would like to have skipping ropes, large dice, balls and footballs we would ether have to sign what equipment we take out or have a chart saying who’s got what equipment. We have also thought about having the astroturf just for football

5. Another Question asked: What things would we like on our playground? We would like to have 2/3 wooden benches for infants and juniors in the shade and the sun.mrs Mahoney will ask the PFA if we can get benches next financial year. (from April 2008 ).
Mrs Mahoney is going to ask Bob for a bin on the astroturf and about the gap in the fence. Mrs Mahoney has suggested that we walk around the school next council meeting to decide where on the yard we would like benches and a designated area for football.


4. A.O.B
• A suggestion was made about having a wall of fame, which would be in the foyer. It would have pictures of people who have done things well e.g. in drama, sport and have something to celebrate.
• The cones on the astroturf are getting damaged. Mrs Mahoney suggested a cone squad to take them out at the start of the day and bring them in at the end of the day.
• Mrs Mahoney suggested that the school council use an assembly to tell the children what we are doing.

* Matters arising, Minutes are not being typed out and Shannon will type the minutes so they are checked and completed by the following week. Copy to be given to Mr. Kiernan and final copy to be put on the school website.
* Brouchers Mrs. Mahoney asked for the playground equipment brouchers back ASAP.
*Celebration, We discussed a celebration for the opening of the new extension to the school. Suggestions were made about having a time capsule, a party, official opening, plaque and a video of the day. Also we discussed who to invite e.g. The Governors and Vicar Evans.
*Travel Plan, we also discussed the meeting that Omar, Shannon and Amy had with the parents from the travel plan working party about the new gates and the other problems about children’s safety. The other members of the council brought up some ideas as well. Most of the school council said about the gates and where children should come in safely.

School Council meet with BCBC Catering Services

Angie and Emma Rees from Bridgend County Borough Council Catering Services joined the School council meeting to ask for opinions on how to improve the lunch menu. Suggestions included a taster day for those children who eat sandwiches, greater variety of fruit (more exotic) and more theme days, e.g. Chinese, French, etc.

Council minutes for 18/10/05

Council Minutes 11.10.2005

* The Council asked for badges so people could notice them - Mrs Mahoney said yes.
* The Council mentioned that there was no hot water in Mrs Taylor class room - Mrs Mahoney said she would investagate.
* Mrs Mahoney mentioned about bike racks but the Council doesn't know if it is going ahead.

The school council members for this year are:-

All new council members introduced themselves and Mrs. Mahoney talked through the normal meeting procedures.
It was agreed that the minutes would be taken by Mrs. Mahoney for the first few weeks, but thereafter would be done by year 6
There was no formal agenda for this meeting, but the following were discussed:-

* Tesco lorries delivering during between 8.45 a.m and 3.00 to 3.30p.m.Lorries had to mount the pavement which made it dangerous for those walking; agreed that year 6 would write to Tesco Express manager

*Complaints have been received about the noise made by toddlers waiting with their parents at the end of the afternoon for infant children whose parents allow them to run up and down the ramps of the temporary buildings, disturbing the pupils in years 3 and 5.

*Concerns about the safety of younger children walking along the wall at the front of the school

* Could there be bicycle racks at the front of the school so that pupils could ride bikes to school? Mrs. Mahoney was concerned about the safety of the children on bikes given the current traffic situation.

*A request was made to have a clock in the hall so that pupils would know how much time they had to eat lunch. This was considered a good idea. Mrs. Mahoney to organise.

*Mrs. Mahoney informed the council that we would need to set up a steering group for managing the school's travel plan and invited the council to form part of that group.
