Terrific Tudor Day

What a wonderful time we had on Thursday 29th March! Year 3 and 4 held their Tudor day and all the children and staff dressed up in Tudor outfits. Many thanks to the parents for providing such lovely costumes. In the morning the class took part in different Tudor activities which included designing a Tudor outfit around their own photograph, describing the different styles of Tudor clothing from the reign of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I and making marzipan sweets shaped liked fruits with Mrs Morris. In the afternoon we held our Tudor banquet where the children were taught 'Tudor Speak' and tried different Tudor foods. Some children loved the Tudor gingerbread and rice pudding with dried fruits. The marzipan sweets seemed to be a big hit with nearly everyone! We listened to some Tudor music and watched some of the children demonstrating Tudor style dancing. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Tudors, the topic has really captured their imaginations as you can see in the photographs below.

We would like to wish you a very happy Easter and hope the children enjoy their well-earned holiday. Next term our topic will be 'Going for Gold' where we will be learning all about the Olympic games. See you then! icon_wink

A long, long time ago.............

A fantastic time was had by all during our class trip to Llancaiach Fawr Manor House. Llancaiach Fawr Manor was built originally in 1530 on the site where an earlier medieval castle once stood.

Colonel Edward Pritchard changed his allegiance in 1645 from the Royalist to the Parliamentarian cause and completely redecorated the interior of the castle.

We enjoyed a tour with servants dressed in period costume, giving us all the gossip about the area, the master himself and of course any events that may be happening in the area. Pupils made pomanders, took part in a music workshop, dressed up in Tudor costumes and ended up in the stocks!!!!!

Investigating sound waves.

We investigated sound waves and found a way of making our own telephones. We even made telephone exchanges that our parents and grandparents would remember from long ago. Next we will be thinking of our own questions to investgate with sound. icon_razz icon_rolleyes

Our class visits the Swansea Waterfront Museum.

Year 3 had a creative day at the Waterfront Museum in Swansea. We experienced learning how various quilts are made, making our own quilt, handling victorian artefacts and having a tour around the art exhibition. Such an interesting day. icon_rolleyes icon_lol

Looking Back!

We had a wonderful time leading up to Christmas. Pupils were involved in many activities including creating snow scenes, making presents, decorating biscuits and designing Christmas wrapping paper. This was followed by a Christmas lunch and a well deserved party in the afternoon. A great time was had by all!

Spring Term

Welcome back everyone! This term our topic is called 'A long, long time ago' and will involve us learning about The Tudors. We are also reading and discussing Fairy Tales and Traditional tales. We hope that the children will be writing their own fairy tales during the coming months.

Our Geography topic this term is Rivers and Lakes. We will be learning about our country and its features.

In Science the children will be investigating Sound and how it travels. They have already discussed what they know about sounds and thought of questions they would like to find the answers to. If you have any books or resources that could help us with our learning we would be most grateful if we could borrow them.

PE days this term are Monday and Thursday (please note, there was a typing error on the Spring Term Newsletter.)

Spelling words and homework will continue to be given out on Fridays. Homework is to be returned by the following Thursday. Spelling books need to be returned to school on the Friday. This enables the children to use the book for tests and stick their new words in which will avoid word lists being lost.

Our Class Assembly

Year 3 had a fun time taking part in their class assembly this term. The theme was Swing it, shake it, move it, make it! It was full of facts, songs, dance and drama. Thank you to all who were able to attend.

Class Assembly

For our class assembly we would like some of the children to dress up as skeletons. If you have any skeleton costumes at home that would fit either your child or another in the class we would be grateful if you could send them into school. We will be sending home information about what your child will need to wear on Friday of this week. Thank you.

Class Assembly

Just a reminder that our class assembly is on Thursday November 24th at 9am. We look forward to seeing you all.

Voting Day

We wrote our manifestos and presented them to the class. On voting day we went into the hall and picked up our ballot papers. We then went to the polling booths and placed a cross in the box of the person we thought would be a good representative for our class. Then we put our ballot papers in the ballot box. The votes were counted up and the results were read out at the end of the day in our assembly. It was an exciting day for everyone. Nineteen pupils were selected. Alex Powling is the representative for our class. Well done Alex!

Looking after each other.

PC Stewart talked to us about friendships and how we should treat each other. We also played who wants to be a millionaire and answered questions on what bullying is and how we can help each other so we don’t have bullies in school.

Harvest Time

During our Harvest celebration this term we sang ‘Cauliflowers Fluffy and Cabbages Green’ and had fun making up our own actions. Pastor David Wade came to the Harvest Celebration and then visited our class. He sat on the ‘Hot Seat’ and we asked him lots of questions about what work he does.

Techniquest

Our visit to Techniquest on 9th November was a great success. Many thanks to our parent helpers who enabled the day to run smoothly. The children had lots of time to explore all the hands-on exhibits. They thoroughly enjoyed spending their money in the shop before going to watch a show about 'Forces'. The show was very funny and taught the children lots about the different kinds of forces and how they work, through exciting activities. Poor Miss Roberts-Morgan had to sit on a bed of nails!!!! The children then had to look for exhibits that demonstrated these forces in the main hall. Their behaviour was extremely good and as you can see from the photos they had a very enjoyable time. icon_biggrin
