Happy Birthday Maes yr Haul!

What an exciting term it has been so far! It feels like spring has truly arrived and we are all excited about the Easter activities that we have planned. The Easter Bonnet Parade is always a wonderful event in the Nursery calendar and we are anticipating some fun and creative designs this year. The parade date has been changed to Friday 30th March and commences at 9.15am in the main hall. It is not a competition, just a chance for the children to show off their hats in front of their family and friends. The children invite you to be serenaded by Easter songs after the parade while you relax and enjoy the refreshments.
We would just like to mention what a huge success the foundation phase Eisteddfod was last week. We were absolutely amazed at how well our children performed in front of their peers and teachers. We were so proud of Seren, Nathan, Ella and Sophia for performing with such confidence and ease. We were very proud indeed! icon_biggrin
Well the time is almost here to celebrate Maes yr Haul primary being 10 years old! These celebrations have been in the planning stages for such along time that we cannot wait to get them started! For the week of the 19th March, birthday celebrations will be taking place across the school all week. On Friday 23rd March we will be holding an open morning from 9.15 -11.15 am. We hope to see you down in Nursery so that you can take part in some of the exciting birthday celebration activities that we have planned.

Many thanks for your continued support and 'Happy Easter!'

Welcome to Nursery

We are so proud of how our lovely boys and girls have settled into Nursery this term. We are encouraging our children to put their coats on independently , eat their lunch using their knife and fork and share and take turns but we are always there to help.

We have been busy bees this term. Our focus has been traditional tales and nursery rhymes and most importantly involving the children in activities that will foster new friendships.

We have introduced the children to our special class "pet" Bones the dog. Bones loves going on new adventures so you may have a visitor having a sleepover with you soon.

We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday October 4th in our "Tray and Display" evening.

Seaside Fun!!

This half term we have enjoyed learning about ‘The Seaside’. We found out some very interesting facts about some of the creatures that live in the sea, for example, we found out that the world’s biggest fish is the Whale Shark. It is as long as 8 scuba divers lying head to toe. Wow!

Next half term we are looking forward to our ‘Pirate’ theme. We have a fantastic Pirate themed role play area in class where we can enjoy dressing up as Pirates and finding hidden treasure. But let’s hope nobody has to walk the plank!

Hopefully the weather will be on our side for our trip to Rest Bay. We will let you know the new date for our trip as soon as it has been confirmed.

Can you please ensure that your child has sunscreen on and brings a hat to school with them daily.

What a busy spring term!

Hello!

We have been so busy this term! We started the half term with St David’s Day and our Eisteddfod. The children all competed in singing, Welsh and English recitals and art competitions. We spent most of the day in the hall in our house teams and there was a lot of cheering and applause as the four houses battled for the winning title! The winning house for Foundation Phase was Ewenni, da iawn!

Then we took part in World Book Day and the children all came in dressed as teddy bears and we had our own teddy bear’s picnic in class which was thoroughly enjoyed by all, especially the children’s teddy bears!

Our topic last half term was all about animals. The children learnt all about animals from domestic pets to animals found in the rainforest. I think you will all agree that they performed a wonderful class assembly on 17th March and this was a great opportunity for them to share their learning with you. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support with helping your children to learn their lines and dressing the children in gorgeous costumes, they all looked fantastic!

On Friday 20th March we worked hard raising money for Red Nose Day and the children all wore something silly to school. They enjoyed cheering for me in the teacher’s jumping race in which I came 2nd! I will update you soon with the grand total that we raised for such a good cause.
This half term we are learning all about food and healthy eating. You will all be pleased to hear that I think all of the dressing up is over now until the summer term!

Thanks again for all your help, your children have had so much fun whilst learning this term and your continued support is greatly appreciated!

Autumn term 2010

Last term our class theme was 'People who help us'.

We had a visit from PC Stewart, our community Police Officer and we had lots of questions to ask him about their uniforms, cars and horses and about how the Police help us. PC Stewart answered all of our questions and even brought his little dragon friend along.

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from the Fire Service. We got to sit in the fire engine, try on the uniform and squirt water from the hose. We had a great time!

The most exciting visit of the term was to see Santa in Poundffald Farm. We got to see Rudolph and Santa and he even gave us all an early Christmas gift.

We worked very hard on our Christmas concert 'The Sleepy Shepherd' and we really enjoyed dressing up and singing and we hope you did too! Thank you to all parents/guardians for helping with the costumes and supporting all chidren in their performances.

Happy New Year!
