Early Morning

It is a hot Thursday morning in Botswana. Bryn and I have already taught a Welsh language and culture lesson at 5am British time, to the children of Botswana. The children also attempted to recite the Year 3 Eisteddofd poem, Breuddwyd. They loved learning the poem and simple sentences and developed quite quickly.

Today we are going to be going to the British council, Odi weavers and Gaborone Dam. I am sure we'll have a lovely time.

We will speak to you soon.

Best wishes,

Mr. Lewis and Bryn.

Webcam conference

Well for the first time in our history we had pupils and teachers from Botswana viewing the inside of Maes Yr Haul Primary School. It was an exciting time and Bryn was on standby, watching everything that happened. Unfortunately there were a few technical difficulties, but nonetheless we were able to see the children of our school on the hall floor and receive a question and answering session through Instant Messaging.

It has been difficult trying to write on our blog, so I will update you with the adventure to date.

On Monday we were taken to the Kgotla (The Chief's court) to be introduced to the important people of Mochudi. In order to go about our business in the village it is customary to be introduced to the village chief, so that you get accepted into the community/village.

Tuesday, we took time to go around the three connecting schools, Isang, Kgafela, Linchwe II and talk to the children.

Today, Wednesday we have had a culture day and experienced an enormous amount about the history and traditions of this country. We then participated in the web conference.

I hope to update you soon.

Mr. Lewis

Preparations for departure

Botswana
I thought I would just drop a quick note to tell you all that I am looking forward to one of the greatest adventures Maes Yr Haul has sent me on yet.

The challenge - to seek out new schools and new experiences to bring back and enrich the learning experiences of our children here at Maes Yr Haul.

The destination - Botswana.

Preparations are underway and suitcases are slowly being assembled, with certain anxieties in tow. I have placed on top of the suitcase a trusted friend of the school, 'Bryn The Bear.'

To keep yourselves updated with our journey I will post as many regular Blogs on here as possible, so you can keep on track with the adventures we are going to experience.

We look forward to keeping you updated.

Mr. Lewis & Bryn x
